Students of the University of Debrecen can also travel now to Southern Utah University in the USA within the framework of what is called Pannónia Ösztöndíjprogram [Pannonia Scholarship Programme]. The agreement on student mobility opportunities was reached as part of the expansion of the partnership between UD and the US university signed a year ago, and students of the Faculty of Humanities can apply first to participate in it.

Blanka Nagy won second place in the Junior and Cadet Fencing World Championships in Wuxi, China. The student of the Kossuth Lajos Secondary and Primary School of the University of Debrecen lost to Canada’s Julia Yin in the final after extremely close matches and collected the World Championship silver in addition to the Cadet World Championship that she had won two years earlier.

The Department of Surgery of the University of Debrecen Clinical Centre organized a symposium entitled Robotic Surgery for Everyone (Robotsebészet mindenkinek) on the experiences gained since the launch of the Robotic Surgery Centre last April. The event, held at the Headquarters of the Debrecen Regional Committee of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences (DAB), was dedicated to a discussion of the place, role and results of robot-assisted surgery in clinical practice in Debrecen, including an overview of the particularities of each medical specialty.

On the occasion of the Day of Hungarian Poetry, foreign and Hungarian students wrote a few lines of their favourite poems on the glass walls of the two libraries of the University of Debrecen. It was the first time that students shared their literary thoughts on the glass walls of the Böszörményi Street Campus Library in addition to the Life and Natural Sciences Library.

Three new laboratories with world-class equipment were inaugurated on Monday at the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Debrecen. Almost 600 million forints from state, university and corporate sources were spent on the modern equipment of the facilities established in the recently inaugurated wing of the Ótemető Street Campus building.

Extreme sports athlete Gábor Rakonczay talked about his unique journey on the stage of the oDEon theater on Thursday in a presentation dubbed “Seventy-five days and 5123 kilometers across the Atlantic Ocean from the Canary Islands to Antigua and Barbuda.” In the theater of the University of Debrecen, the two-time Guinness World Record holder revealed details about his mental and physical preparation for what he calls the critical moments and why he felt that his journey was completely “round” despite all the trials and tribulations.

In the framework of a full-day program, any interested party could learn about Poland, Polish history, culture, folklore and gastronomy, as well as study, scholarship and job opportunities in Poland on Lengyel Nap [Polish Day], hosted by the Institute of Slavic Studies of the Faculty of Humanities of the University of Debrecen (UD) in cooperation with Budapest-based Instytut Polski [Polish Institute] and the Polish Tourism Organization office in our capital. The event, which was held on April 2 was connected to the Day of Polish-Hungarian Friendship (March 23).

The students of Faculty of Business and Economics, majoring in Tourism and Catering Management, were the first “swallows” from the University of Debrecen to take part in a short-term group study trip of the Pannonia Scholarship Program (Pannónia Ösztöndíjprogram) in the framework of their course on international tourism relations. During their three-day trip, these students visited Vienna’s City Hall, Europa Experience (the European Parliament's education and experience center in Vienna), and the interactive museum called House of Music.

As many as 96 newly-hooded Ph.D.-s of the University of Debrecen (UD) took their oath and received their PhD degrees last Saturday. The titles habilitated doctor and the awards Count István Tisza Foundation for the University of Debrecen - University of Debrecen Publication Awards (Gróf Tisza István Debreceni Egyetemért Alapítvány (GTIDEA)–Debreceni Egyetem Publikációs Díj) were also conferred and presented at a ceremony in the venue called Aula of our Main Building.

In the ImpactLab-Makerspace laboratory of Innovációs Ökoszisztéma Központ [Innovation Ecosystem Center], students can expect to be exposed to 3D technologies week after week this semester as well: in addition to taking the four courses announced, these young people can also start their prototyping journey in specific workshops.
