Subprogramme in Russian Literature and Culture - About us

Our Subprogramme, affiliated to the research and teaching activities of the Institute of Slavic Studies, University of Debrecen, offers the chance to pursue cutting edge academic research in Russian literature and culture. Students deciding to join our Subprogramme may study the classical and modern heritage of Russian literature as well as contemporary literary and cultural phenomena. Research topics that are offered include mythopoetic comparative, intertextual, intermedial and spatial studies-inflected investigation of Russian works of literature, close reading based on tropological and motivic theories, as well as the study of Russian schools of poetics and the dialogue between classical and contemporary literature. Since several instructors of the subprogramme do research in the theory and practice of translation, research topics advertised in the national database (doktori.hu) include specific issues related to the theory and practice of translation (translation as interpretation and re-creation, translation as cultural transfer, the conception of translation strategies, translatability, the history of literary translation). Given the institutional background of the Subprogramme, research topics also cover the literary and cultural contacts between Russia and peoples outside Russian culture.

Internationally known and recognized scholars, the instructors of the Subprogramme are fully qualified to support students in international conference participation, publication and study trips. Research results may be published, among many other venues, in Slavica (https://ojs.lib.unideb.hu/slavica), the academic journal of the Institute of Slavic Studies. The peer-reviewed is edited by the instructors of the Subéprogramme, who, with a significant track record in publishing and editing academic materials, are able to instruct the students of the subprogramme regarding current academic trends and orient them towards the successful publication of their work.
